Get Website Traffic Fast! 5 Quick Tips

KeyIf you are running an online business, you already know that getting traffic to your site is the single most important key to it all. Right?

In fact, you spend time writing amazing content, you have great products and/or services to offer, and you’re a great person and business owner — basically you’ve got it all. Except traffic.  And yet the more traffic, the more serious visitors; the more serious your visitors, the better your sales and profits will be.

So what exactly does an online business have to do to get noticed among the millions of other sites — some doing/selling exactly what you are doing/selling? It’s not easy, but with repeated efforts you can and will get noticed.

First, I am assuming that you have a niche (narrowed down what you sell, or what you offer for services), and you know how to determine your keywords, and your regularly conduct keyword research so you know what is popular. Here are 5 ways to get traffic to your site, quickly

1. Use your keywords

  • in your titles. Your title is where you place your primary keyword or keyword phrase.
  • in your first two or three sentences of all pages and posts.  These sentences should describe your business/offering/service in 90 characters or less.
  • to populate any fields that are available for SEO in your theme (usually under your post/page)
  • and create a traffic and SEO strategy

2. Add content to your site as often as you can, but preferably every day

Content gets you traffic, plain and simple.  Google loves fresh content and actively searches for it so they can index it into that great encyclopedia in cyberspace. Give search engines a reason to visit, not to mention your own returning visitors. People love to read content from those they like and trust, so give it to them.

3. Place links to your other content whenever you can (called interlinking)

Google bots like to follow links. If you have related content on another page, place a link to it within the content you are currently working on. The bots will follow your link to the page your are linking to so that they can index that content as well. Win-win.

4. Get incoming links to your site

Google also likes websites that have incoming links. It shows the site’s popularity, and increases the search engines’ perception of how valuable your site is.  And you know what they say about being popular. The search engines are kind of snobbish that way too.

Keep in mind that search engines give more ranking to links from sites that are popular and credible, and relevant to your site’s content.

What are links? 

A direct link looks like this: www.yourwebsite.com

A text link is, as mentioned above, embedded in the text. Readers can click on the link and are redirected to another page on your site

Encouragement might be required so try the following: 

  • Adding lots of fresh, relevant content
  • Submit articles about your niche to article directories 
  • Being active on Social networking sites.

5. Be Social!

As mentioned in tip #4, now more than ever before, internet marketing is about building a community. Whether you offer a forum on your website or you participate in social networking sites, social networking is a valuable traffic generating tactic. Sites like Facebook and Twitter are powerful tools for generating links and traffic to your site – create a profile and then post comments and ideas that generate conversation.

Outline your plan, set your goals, and then take the necessary action.

Helping you get more out of Facebook

Every day, people use our apps and services to connect with the people, places and things they care about. The updates to our policies reflect the new products we’ve been working on to improve your Facebook experience. They also explain how our services work in a way that’s easier to understand. Here are some highlights:

Discover what’s going on around you:

We’re updating our policies to explain how we get location information depending on the features you decide to use. Millions of people check into their favorite places and use optional features like Nearby Friends (currently only available in some regions). We’re working on ways to show you the most relevant information based on where you are and what your friends are up to. For example, in the future, if you decide to share where you are, you might see menus from restaurants nearby or updates from friends in the area.
Make purchases more convenient: In some regions, we’re testing a Buy button that helps people discover and purchase products without leaving Facebook. We’re also working on new ways to make transactions even more convenient.

Find information about privacy on Facebook at the moment you need it: To make them more accessible, we moved tips and suggestions to Privacy Basics. Our data policy is shorter and clearer, making it easier to read.

Understand how we use the information we receive: For example, we use device information to optimize your mobile experience, like understanding battery and signal strength to help us make sure our apps work well for you. We ask for permission to use your phone’s location when we offer optional features like check-ins or adding your location to posts.

Get to know how the family of Facebook companies and apps work together: Over the past few years, Facebook has grown and we want to make sure you know about our family of companies, apps and services. We use the information we collect to improve your experience. For example, if you’re locked out of your Instagram account, you can use your Facebook information to recover your password. Nothing in our updates changes the commitments that Instagram, WhatsApp and other companies have made to protect your information and your privacy.

Your information and advertising: People sometimes ask how their information is shared with advertisers. Nothing is changing with these updates—we help advertisers reach people with relevant ads without telling them who you are. Learn more about ads and how you can control the ads you see.

Keep in mind that your settings on Facebook are not changing, and that some features are only available in certain regions. For example, tag suggestions are only available outside of Canada and the EU.

Giving you more control over ads
We’ve heard from some of you that it can be difficult to control the types of ads you see if you use multiple devices and browsers. In the past, if you opted out of certain kinds of advertising on your laptop, that choice may not have been applied for ads on your phone. We know that many people use more than one phone, tablet or browser to access Facebook, so it should be easy for you to make a single choice that applies across all of your devices.

That’s why Facebook respects the choices you make about the ads you see, across every device. You can opt out of seeing ads on Facebook based on the apps and sites you use through the Digital Advertising Alliance. You can also opt out using controls on iOS and Android. When you tell us you don’t want to see these types of ads, your decision automatically applies to every device you use to access Facebook. Also, we’re now making ad preferences available in additional countries, beginning with Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and the UK.

is a series of steps that you, the WordPress site owner, take to move your site up in the search results of the search engines. As I mentioned in Part 1, ideally you want to  increase your rankings so that your site shows up on the first page of the search engine results.

What Steps Can You Take To Optimize Your (New) WordPress Website?

1.  Keywords

Know the search phrases and words that your prospects type into the search engines to find the products and services that you offer. This is imperative — not an option.  If you missed the Free Keyword Research Tool and Tutorial from Part 1, you can GET IT HERE

Once you know them, use these words on your pages and in your content. There are entire books and  online courses about how to find and use keywords. A little research will pay off nicely.

2.  Good Content

Search engines look at the content on your website. They scan your content looking for keywords, keyword phrases and other relevant words and terms. Often people mistake the meaning of this and load their content with their keywords and phrases, even to the point of making their content nonsensical. But the search engines have very complicated algorithms to rate the quality of the content too. Search engines want to ensure that they are sending people to quality websites. not just those that are packed with the right keyword/keyword phrases.

3.  Linking

Another element that search engines look at are the links to and from your website. They look at incoming links – links from other websites and blogs and they look at internal links – linking within your own site (from one page to another within your site).

a. Incoming Links

Quality content helps create incoming links. Here’s what Google says about building incoming links to your site:

Create unique and compelling content on your site and the web in general

    • Make videos, do original research, and post interesting stuff on a regular basis. If you’re passionate about your site’s topic, there are lots of great avenues to engage more users.
    • Teach readers new things, uncover new news, be entertaining or insightful, show your expertise, interview different personalities in your industry and highlight their interesting side. Make your site worthwhile.
    • Participate thoughtfully in blogs and user reviews related to your topic of interest. Offer your knowledgeable perspective to the community.

Social networking, guest blogging, and article marketing can all have a profound effect on the number of incoming links. Build relationships online to motivate people to link to your website.

b.  Internal Linking

Internal linking means that you have links from one page or article to another on your own site. Internal linking is perfect for situations where you have content that you want to draw attention to AND rank well in the search engines. Just create a link to it from other content or pages. For example, in my opening paragraph above you’ll see that Part 1 is a hyperlink to the first blog post in this series.

If you want have a sales page to a product or service and want it to rank really well in the search engines, then create a link to your sales page from your contact page, from your landing page, and any other pages that it makes sense to link to.

Keywords, Linking and Good Content are simple steps you can take to increase your ranking in the search engines. It’s not magic or difficult. Give them a try and come back to post your results here. We’d love to hear about your success.


How to Set up Facebook’s New Messaging/Email System

Recently Facebook introduced a new messaging system

that allows you to communicate through email, text message, chat or Facebook Messages all in one place. This guide will show you how the messaging system works and how simple it is to set up.

When you’re invited to try the new system, you’ll see a message in Facebook asking you if you want to upgrade to the new system. When you click it, you’ll see an overview like this.

1.  Click “Upgrade Now” to get started.

Next you’ll be invited to claim your @facebook.com email address. Your email address matches your username. So if your name is janesmith, your email address will be janesmith@facebook.com.

2.  Click “Activate Email” to get your address.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll see a message that explains how the email works:

As you can see, emails to that address now go to your Messages folder and if it’s message from people who aren’t your friends, they will go to your “Other Messages” folder. You can also manage who can send you messages in your privacy settings.

3.  Click “Next” when you’re ready and it will ask you if you want to set up text messaging.

This will allow your friends to send you messages via text.

4.  Choose your country and mobile carrier.

5.  Then click “Next”.

The instructions on the page will get you to

6.  text an “F” to a certain number and that will send you an activation code.

7.  When the activation code arrives on your phone, enter it in the space provided.

8.  Click “Activate Text Messaging” when you’re done.

Then you’ll see this message:

You’ll also get a message on your phone that shows you how you can update your Facebook status via text. You can also reply directly to any text messages that come to you from your Facebook friends.

Now you’re all set to use all 4 messaging options for Facebook:

  • Email
  • Text
  • Facebook Messaging
  • Chat

All your conversations will be stored in one place and you can view the full thread of your conversation, even if some messages we sent via different mediums. Here’s an example of a back and forth conversation between Facebook messaging and email. Every time you communicate with this person, you’ll see the conversation in one thread.

Important: If you receive email from someone who is not on your friend’s list or your Facebook friends uses an email address that is not in their Facebook account, the message will go to your “Other Messages”.

To find your “Other Messages” click on “Other” under “Messages” in the left menu:

You can ensure messages from this person go to your main box next time, by moving the message to your “Messages Box”. Just open the message, click “Actions” and choose “Move to Messages”.
