I recently posted a survey on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter
because I wanted your opinion on pricing models for membership sites. I was looking for pricing strategies that would be the most appealing to you if you were considering joining a membership site.
I’ve seen several payment plan options on a variety of programs that I’ve been invited to join recently, including payment by donation.
But I narrowed the choices down to the following 3, as they seem to be the most popular; a monthly fee, an annual fee, and a one-time fee. I then asked the following question:
What type of payment plan would you prefer when joining a membership site?
And these were the results:
- A monthly fee 62.5%
- A one-time fee 29.2%
- An annual fee 16.7%
Almost 2/3 of the responders would be most interested in joining a site if they were offered a monthly payment option. I think the results are fairly significant since there is such a wide margin between a monthly fee and the next choice (a one-time fee).

Thanks for sharing this information. I’m curious…I’ve been in memberships that have a one time fee and then unlimited access to the material and others where I paid monthly but when I quit, I no longer had access to the information. Did you ask about that? If it is something I really want to know, like an intensive course, I would be more willing to pay more once so that I know I’ll always be able to refer back to it.

I didn’t ask a lot of details other than what method of paying is most likely to get someone to sign up for a program.
I agree with you that if it is an intensive course that I wanted to refer back to a lot, I’d rather pay a one-time fee too.
