You’ve probably heard the term ‘SEO’ a lot

and you know you should do it, but wonder where to start. This post will shed some light on what SEO means and why it’s important.

SEO is the shortened term for Search Engine Optimization. As an online business and WordPress site owner, you need to know that SEO is what helps drive visitors to your website. And without visitors…well you know.

Search engines have names like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. When you are searching for information on the internet, you type your phrases or keywords into the Google, Yahoo, or Bing search field. Once you press Enter, you receive a page with a list of results.

You may have heard this term before too, because it is often referred to as “the first page of Google“. It is called this because what you are seeing is, literally, the first page of results based on your keywords and keyword phrases.

And keep this in mind for later in this post: Do you ever go to the second, third, or fourth page to find what you’ve been searching for? More than likely, you scan the results and click on a few that look like they match your search terms (words and phrases). This is how 99% of the people on the internet search for solutions to their problems.

Although it can be difficult because everyone else is vying for top position too,

all businesses on the internet need to be doing all they can to get their site to come up higher in the search engine results. Ideally, your goal should be to be represented on the first page or two of the search engine results.
